ROXANA – Roxana Shell’s football team will be heading back to the playoffs for the second year in a row. The Shells are seeded third in the south end of the bracket and will take on fourteenth-seeded Paris at home at 3:00 p.m Saturday, October 28th.
For the Shells, they finished the regular season undefended with a 9-0 record and were the Cahokia (Mississippi) conference champions. They clinched the conference championship in week seven when they defeated Breese Central 52-28.
The Shells are led by a senior-heavy class. They bring in three running backs who rotate carries, Evan Wells, Terrel Graves, and Andruw Ellis all have over 500 yards of rushing. Wells led the way with 988 yards followed by Ellis with 753 and Graves with 586. Chris Walleck leads the offense as quarterback. Breese Central coach said that it’s hard to have a game plan when the Shells have three running backs that can score.
The defense has been lights out this season. They have shut the run-and-pass game down and have not let the opponents score much this year.
Parris sits on the far east side of the state on the Indiana border. They come into this game with a 5-4 record. They will travel 2 hours and 31 minutes to Shell’s country.
Roxana made it to the second round of the playoffs last year after winning on the road in Hillsboro in round one with a 13-7 win before getting beat in round two to a very good Prairie Central Hawks 41-20.
