EAST ALTON – On Thursday morning S. Shafter Excavating & Demolition arrived at the old Citizens Savings and Loan at 700 Berkshire to demolish the unique round building.
The building was built in 1964 by architect Alvin Stolze as the building started to come down the parking lot across the street filled with onlookers who took photos and videos of the demolition.

The building has sat empty over the last several years and due to holes in the roof and other issues the building would cost too much to fix so the city decided to tear it down.
