Clarence E. Gibson Jr., 78, of Granite City, Illinois passed away at 12:17 p.m. on Saturday, November 4, 2023, at his home. He was born July 20, 1945, in Venice, Illinois, a son of the late Clarence E. and Alice (Rhodes) Gibson Sr. The United States Army veteran proudly served his country during the Vietnam War. Clarence had worked as a crane operator at Spectrulite in Venice and had owned and operated Gibson Auto Repair. He enjoyed racing cars, was a good mechanic and tow truck operator. He also enjoyed his days of bowling, hunting and watching movies with his family. He is survived by five children, Richard (Sondra) Gibson, Michelle (Joe) Needham, Chad Gibson, Jessica Gibson and Cassandra (Anthony) Polach, all of Granite City; many grandchildren; several great grandchildren; his former wife and mother of his children, Faye Gibson of Granite City; two brothers, Richard (Brenda) Gibson and Leroy (Laura) Gibson; a sister, Faye Flaugher, all of Granite City; many nieces; nephews; other extended family and friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant granddaughter; two brothers, Kenny Gibson and Jerry Gibson and a sister, Shirley Causey. A celebration of his life will be held at the Freedom Worship Center on Highway 162 in Granite City from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 9, 2023. Memorials may be made to the family.
