ROXANA – The East Alton Wood River Oilers boy’s basketball team came up short Saturday in Roxana at the Hoopsgiving Classic after they lost to Staunton Bulldogs 58-49.
In the first quarter, the Bulldogs jumped to a 14-6 over the Oilers. The Bulldogs extended the lead to 33-18 going into the locker room.
In the third quarter, the Oilers got within 9 points but trailed the Bulldogs 39-30 going into the final quarter. In the final quarter, the Bulldogs were able to hold off the Oilers in the final quarter to take the win.
The Oilers will play for 11th place on Saturday while Staunton will play for 9th.
The Oilers had three players in double figures. Devon Green had 20 points, Tah’Juan Smith 14 points and Harrison Smith had 12 points.
Staunton also had three in double figures. The Bulldogs were led by Braden Buffington with 17 points, Isiah Laux had 13 and Aaron Bodner had 11.
