Martin Porter Scott, 89, of Caseyville, Illinois, died in Bluffton, SC on November 26th, 2023.
He was born in Chimes, Arkansas, in 1934 to Alfonso Scott and Verbie Reeves. Martin joined the Air Force in December 1951 and retired in February 1972. After retiring from the military, Martin studied Nursing at Belleville Area College, now known as SWIC. He was a dedicated member of the Ainad Shriners Hospital Temple of Southern Illinois in East St. Louis, IL.
Martin was a member of the Lions Club, Collinsville Recreation Club and a fireman of the Volunteer Caseyville Fire Department. He enjoyed attending local fish fries and steak dinners with his wife and friends. His hobbies included going to the gym, riding his tractor and golf cart, and decorating for holidays on the Happy Hill. He also enjoyed offering assistance to the citizens of Caseyville when called upon. Martin was a dedicated member of the Ainad Shriner’s Temple of Southern Illinois in East St. Louis, IL.
Martin married Phyllis Ann (Midkiff) Scott of Caseyville, Illinois in 1974.
Martin was preceded in death by his father, Alfonso Scott; his mother, Verbie Reeves; sister, Elsie Cope; brother, Charles Scott; and son, David Scott and was survived by his wife Phyllis Scott, and is survived by son, Kenneth Scott and many nieces, nephews, grandchildren and Godchildren.
The funeral and visitation services for Martin and Phyllis Scott will be held on October 16, 2024, at Valhalla-Gaerdner-Holten Funeral Home, located at 3412 Scott Frank Pkwy W, Belleville, IL. Visitation will be from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m., followed by the funeral service from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. The graveside service and burial will take place at 3:00 p.m. at Valhalla Gardens.
