COTTAGE HILLS – Cottage Hills Fire Department responded to two fires today at Cottage Hills Bar, Grill&Market 132 W MacArthur Dr.
The first fire was dispatched at around 4:40 pm today. A box alarm was requested for that fire Rosewood Heights, Bethalto, and Meadowbrook responded. Firefighters quickly were able to get that fire under control. They returned to back in-service at around 6:07 p.m.
Not even an hour later they were dispatched back at around 7:00 p.m. for flames coming from the building. When firefighters arrived they encountered heavy smoke and flames coming from the front of the structure.
A commercial box alarm was requested due to the heavy fire. Rosewood Heights, Bethalto, Meadowbrook, Wood River, and East Alton Fire Department responded. Wood River and East Alton brought their ladder trucks.
Due to the dangerous conditions, firefighters took a defensive attack from the outside. They were afraid of the front wall falling and the roof. It took firefighters about an hour to get the fire out. The building sustained heavy damage.
Madison County Emergency Management responded with their rehab unit.
It is unknown at this time what caused the fires. No injuries were reported.
