John P. Irwin, 69, of Granite City, Illinois passed away at 2:19 p.m. on Tuesday, February 20, 2024, at Missouri Baptist Medical Center in Town and Country, Missouri. John was born August 15, 1954, in Granite City, the youngest son of Richard E. and LaVesta Faye (Russell) Irwin. For nearly 40 years, John served many families as an office assistant at Irwin Chapel. Prior to working at Irwin Chapel he was as an operator with Olin Brass in East Alton. He had a passion for 1960 and 1970’s rock music and enjoyed his collection of guitars. John enjoyed history, trivia, going to the movies and had a love for animals and cherished his pugs through the years. John devoted many years caring for his mother and enjoyed special times shared with his family. He is survived by his brother and sister-in-law, Randall A. and Linda Irwin of Granite City; his special friend, Patty York of Granite City; special cousins and friends.
In celebration of his life, a visitation will be held at Irwin Chapel, 591 Glen Crossing Road in Glen Carbon on Monday, February 26, 2024, from 3:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. A private family graveside service will be held at Sunset Hill Memorial Estates in Glen Carbon at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 27, 2024, with Pastor Derrell Brame officiating. Memorials may be made to Renee’s Rescue Animal Sanctuary and may be accepted at the funeral chapel.
