Marjorie A. Schmidt, 87, of Granite City, Illinois passed away at 9:02 a.m. on Wednesday, February 21, 2024, at Anderson Hospital in Maryville.
She was born February 22, 1936, in Highland, Illinois, a daughter of the late Richard and Viola (Warnecke) Iberg. She married Edward W. Schmidt on May 5, 1956, in Highland and he passed away on October 17, 2013. Marjorie retired from the Granite City School District after over 25 years of dedicated service as an elementary school teacher. She was a faithful member of St. John United Church of Christ in Granite City and enjoyed tending to her home, gardening and days of traveling with her husband. She cherished her granddaughter and her great grandchildren and will be remembered for the love and special times shared with family and friends.
She is survived by three sons, Edward W. Schmidt, Richard Schmidt and Alan Schmidt, all of Granite City; a granddaughter and her husband, Hannah and Juan Fernandez of Granite City; three great grandchildren, Victoria, Eleanor and Juan Edward Fernandez; other extended family and friends.
In addition to her beloved husband and parents, she was preceded in death by an infant daughter and a sister, Ethel Rich.
In celebration of her life, visitation will be at Irwin Chapel, 3960 Maryville Road in Granite City on Monday, February 26, 2024, from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. where funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, February 27, 2024, with Reverend Karla Frost and Juan Fernandez officiating.
Burial will follow at St. John Cemetery on Maryville Road in Granite City. Memorials may be made to St. John United Church of Christ and may be accepted at the funeral chapel.
