Clifford Robertson

Clifford “Robbie” Robertson, 86, of Granite City, Illinois, passed away on Wednesday, February 28, 2024, at Gateway Regional Hospital in Granite City, Illinois. He was born September 28, 1937, in East St. Louis, Illinois to the late Melvin P. and Lily M. (Leonard) Robertson.Clifford’s zest for life and love for sports were evident from his youth. A multi-sport athlete, he left an indelible mark at DeSoto Senior High School in Missouri, lettering in football, basketball, baseball, and track and field. His dedication to his faith and community shone brightly through his involvement with St. John United Church of Christ. His melodious voice added harmony to the choir, and his leadership on the Church Council guided many. His professional life was marked by over three decades of commitment to the Monsanto Company, where he honed his skills as a Mechanic of Electrical and Instrumentation. Beyond the workplace, his athletic prowess continued to amaze, achieving two perfect games in bowling and the rare feat of a hole-in-one in golf. His talents extended beyond sports; he was also a gifted singer and a generous soul who contributed to Habitat for Humanity. Most of all, “Robbie”, as he was affectionately called by his wife, Marilyn, was a devoted husband, sharing countless dances and moments of joy. His legacy as a loving father, grandfather, and great-grandfather endures, leaving a void in the hearts of those he touched. Clifford’s life was a testament to living fully, giving generously, and loving deeply. He will be profoundly missed.He was preceded in death by his parents, Melvin and Lily Robertson; and his six brothers and four sisters.Surviving to cherish his memory are his beloved wife of 66 years, Marilyn Joyce (Schuerman) Robertson, of Granite City, Illinois; his children, Robin Lynn (Steven) Totten and Derek Todd (Kathleen) Robertson, both of Granite City, Illinois; his grandchildren, Lydia K. (Michele Yates) Totten, Sarah E. Totten, and Chelsea L. (Nicholas) Aiello; his precious great granddaughter, Dhani Rose Huff, and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.Memorials are appreciated to St. John UCC or to the American Heart Association. Condolences may also be expressed online at www.irwinchapel.com.Visitation: Friends may visit from 4 to 7 p.m., Wednesday, March 6, 2024, at Irwin Chapel, 3960 Maryville Rd., Granite City, Illinois and from 10 to 11 a.m., Thursday, March 7, 2024, at St. John UCC, Granite City, Illinois.Funeral: Services will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, March 7, 2024, at St. John United Church of Christ, 2901 Nameoki Rd., Granite City, Illinois with Pastor Karla Frost officiating. If unable to attend the service, please contact the church office to obtain online viewing access.  Interment will follow in St. John Cemetery on Maryville Road in Granite City, Illinois.
