Joseph Henke

Joseph “Joe” Frank Henke Sr., age 67, of Granite City, IL, passed away on Saturday, March 9, 2024, at his home, with his loving family by his side. Joe was born on October 2, 1956, in Hillsboro, IL, a son of Frances (McGee) Henke of St. Charles, MO, and the late James Henke.

Joe was a United States Navy veteran who proudly served his country with honor. On February 20, 1982, Joe married Debbie Pfeiffer, the love of his life at Second Baptist Church in Granite City, IL. Joe retired from Henkel Corporation in St. Louis, MO, as a processor after many years of dedicated service. Joe loved being outdoors camping, boating, and riding his Honda scooter with Debbie riding her scooter on the back country roads. His greatest joy was spending time with his family and spoiling his grandchildren, whom he loved dearly. Joe will be remembered as a loving husband, father, son, grandfather, brother, uncle, and a dear friend. He will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Joe was preceded in death by his father, James Henke; and by his furbaby, Chewy.

In addition to his mother, Joe is survived by his devoted wife of forty-two, years, Debbie Henke of Granite City, IL; loving sons, Joseph Henke II of Granite City, IL and Mike (Jarica) Henke of Pontoon Beach, IL; dear siblings, Jerry Henke of Granite City, IL, Rhonda (Chris) Andersen of Pontoon Beach, IL and Joni (Mike) Gordon of St. Charles, MO; second mother, Merlene Pfeiffer of Granite City, IL; proud grandfather to Leah Henke, Owyn Henke, Kellan Henke and Brooke Henke; nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

In celebration of his life, a memorial visitation will be held from 10:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. on Friday, March 15, 2024, at Second Baptist Church, 2100 Illinois Avenue, Granite City, IL. The memorial service will follow at 12:30 p.m. on Friday, with Pastor Chris Sedabres officiating.

Interment will be in Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery, with military honors conducted by the United States Navy.

Memorial donations may be given to the family or the charity of the donor’s choice.
