Janette Golden, age 101, of Granite City, IL, passed away on Monday, March 11, 2024, at her home. Janette was born on August 2, 1922, in Hayword, MO, a daughter of the late Jefferson H. Fields and Beatrice Mae (Reedy) Fields.
On February 8, 1939, Janette Fields married Bill Golden, the love of her life in Portageville, MO., and Bill passed away on December 31, 2007. Janette was a faithful member of Nameoki United Methodist Church in Granite City, IL. She retired from the payroll department at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Granite City, IL, after many years of dedicated service. Janette was an avid sports fan, and she enjoyed watching baseball and football games. She also enjoyed fishing with Bill at Table Rock Lake and after she retired, she taught herself how to paint and became a talented artist. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family, whom she loved dearly. Janette will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her.
In addition to her parents and husband, Janette was preceded in death by a son, Gary Golden; and by her seven sisters and three brothers.
She is survived by her loving children, Mary Whitsell of Granite City, IL, Pat (Bob) Grunden of Harrisburg, PA and Steve (Bev) Golden of Granite City, IL; eleven grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren and several great-great-grandchildren; extended family and friends.
In celebration of her life, a memorial visitation will be held from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 6, 2024, at Irwin Chapel, Granite City, IL. The memorial service will follow at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday.
Memorial donations may be given to Siteman Cancer Center. Donations will be accepted at the funeral chapel.
