EDWARDSVILLE – After the November general election Madison County will have a new chairman overseeing the Madison County board. In a highly contested primary between Madison County Treasurer Chris Slusser and incumbent chairman Kurt Prenzler, Chris Slusser won by about 4,500 votes.
Prenzler was first elected chairman in 2016 and was re-elected in 2020. Slusser and Prenzler’s race became heated leading up to the primary race. Slusser is the Madison County Treasurer, after being appointed treasurer in 2016, he was elected in 2018 and re-elected in 2022.
Slusser was previously a Madison County board member in District 15 from 2008 to 2012. He was again in 2016 but was appointed to Treasurer so he stepped down as a board member.
In the unofficial election results, Slusser received 11,704 with Prenzler with 7,156.
