Carl Wilson Leggans, 86, of Charleston and formerly of Granite City, Illinois passed away at 3:45 a.m. on Monday, April 15, 2024, at his home.
He was born February 26, 1938, in Cobden, Illinois, a son of the late Nubern and Blanche (Wrolen) Leggans. He married the love of his life, Linda Darline (Farris) Leggans on August 5, 1974, in Granite City and she survives.
Carl retired in 1998 from Granite City Steel after 38 years of dedicated service as a steelworker. He proudly served his county with the United States Air Force. Carl enjoyed his days of bowling, playing golf, riding his bike and was a fan of the St. Louis Cardinals. He loved baseball with his grandchildren and enjoyed being a coach from the stands behind home plate with his radar gun. Carl enjoyed life to the fullest, never knew a stranger and cherished being a proud Papa and always had a special love for his children and grandchildren. He will be remembered for the love and special times shared with his family and friends.
In addition to his beloved wife of nearly 50 years, he is survived by two daughters, Carlea Drury of Granite City and Dana (Anthony) Leggans-Turnbough of Granite City; three grandchildren, Ashley Burgoon of Ashmore, Jessica (Alan) Watson of Granite City and Claire Drury of Granite City; five great grandchildren, Austin (Hailey) Prindable of Charleston, Carl Prindable of Ashmore and Lucas, Carter and Ruby Watson of Granite City; five siblings, Lefty Leggans of DuQuoin, Phyllis Leggans of DuQuoin, Kay (Richard) Edwards of Herrin, Diane (Rick) Kelly of Creal Springs and Nicole Loucks of Christopher; many nieces and nephews; other extended family and friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four siblings, Billie Leggans, Joyce Ann Leggans, Janet Newborn and Jim (Sonny) Leggans.
In celebration of his life, a visitation will be at Irwin Chapel, 3960 Maryville Road in Granite City on Friday, April 19, 2024, from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, Epilepsy Foundation or to The Autism Program of Illinois and may be accepted at the funeral home. www.irwinchapel.com
