Francis Gremaud

Francis X. “Frank” Gremaud, 94, of Granite City, Illinois passed away at 4:47 p.m. on Tuesday, April 30, 2024, at Gateway Regional Medical Center in Granite City.

He was born April 2, 1930, in St. Louis, Missouri, a son of the late Daniel Alfred and Adelaide (Osterman) Gremaud. He married Janet M. (Johans) Gremaud on May 17, 1951, at The Cathedral in St. Louis, Missouri and she passed away on January 24, 2023.

Frank retired in 1992 as a master carpenter with over 40 years of dedicated service with the St. Louis Carpenter’s Local #73. The United States Marine Corp veteran proudly served his country during the Korean War and was the recipient of several medals and recognitions. He was a member of St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Granite City and enjoyed his days of woodworking, tinkering, camping and boating. He cherished his children and grandchildren and will be remembered for the love and special times shared with his family and friends.

He is survived by six children and their spouses, Dan and Gerri Gremaud of Swansea, Paul and Janice Gremaud of Godfrey, Carol and Gary Krumeich of Edwardsville, Patty and Robert Mireles of Marietta, Georgia, Dave and Anne Gremaud of Simpson, Illinois and Jim and Kim Gremaud of Edwardsville; thirteen grandchildren and their spouses, Tony Gremaud, Nicole and Justin Volpe, Amy and Mike Ligibel Jr., Kelly and Michael McKeefrey, Andy Krumeich, Garrett and Sarah Krumeich, Trevor Mireles, Chelsea Mireles, Madeline Donaway, Nick Gremaud, Frank and Jackie Gremaud, Jake Gremaud and Phoebe Gremaud; nine great grandchildren and spouses, Jakob and Brittanie Davis, Luigi Volpe, Salvatore Volpe, Kelsey and Kyle Schreiber, Isabelle McKeefrey, Connor McKeefrey, Matt McKeefrey and Casey McKeefrey and Augusta Gremaud; three great-great grandchildren, Kyler, Ariel and Rayna; many nieces; nephews; other extended family and friends. In addition to his beloved wife of 71 years and parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Linda Newton; a brother and sister-in-law, Alfred and Virginia Gremaud and a sister and brother-in-law, Joan and Shelton Michel.

In celebration of his life, visitation will be at Irwin Chapel, 3960 Maryville Road in Granite City on Sunday, May 5, 2024, from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. A funeral mass will be at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Granite City on Monday, May 6, 2024, at 11:30 a.m. with Father Steve Thompson as celebrant. Burial with full military honors will follow at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis.
