Geneva VanScoyk

Geneva Phillips VanScoyk, age 101, of Granite City, IL, passed away on Thursday, May 9, 2024, at Hitz Memorial Home in Alhambra, IL. Geneva was born on February 28, 1923, in Eminence, MO, a daughter of the late Rev. Melvin and Ora (Lay) Brewer.

In 1972, Geneva Brewer married William Phillips in Las Vegas, NV and William passed away in 1996. Then on March 13, 2004, she married Ed VanScoyk at City Temple Church in Granite City, IL, and Ed passed away on May 19, 2014. Geneva was a faithful member of City Temple Church. She had worked as a manager for Mode O’Day women’s clothing store in St. Louis, MO and she retired from Allen Foods as a bookkeeper in St. Louis, MO, after many years of dedicated service. Geneva enjoyed going to church to serve the Lord. She also enjoyed crocheting, embroidery and bowling with her friends and family. Geneva will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her.

In addition to her parents and husbands, Geneva was preceded in death by her siblings, Rev. Melvin Brewer, Bonnie Lawrence, and Dr. Rev. Paul Brewer.

She is survived by many nieces, nephews, and extended family and friends.

In celebration of Geneva’s life, a private graveside service will be held at Wanda Cemetery, South Roxana, IL, at a future date.

Memorial donations may be given to City Temple Church.
