David Lee Davis, 82, of Granite City, Illinois passed away at 9:06 p.m. on Saturday, May 18, 2024, at the Granite City Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Granite City.
He was born in Granite City on January 15, 1942, a son of the late David R. and Mary J. (Hardin) Davis. He married Joyce Marie (Thompson) Davis in Washington, DC on August 3, 1963, and she survives.
He retired from National Steel on January 24, 2001, after 30 years of dedicated service as a millwright. David proudly served his country with the United States Navy. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 1126 in Granite City and had served as an inside and outside guard. He enjoyed his days of fishing, traveling and was an avid sports fan.
In addition to his beloved wife, he is survived by a son, David A. Davis of Granite City; a daughter and son-in-law, Trina and Ben Schollmeier of Lady Lake, Florida; six grandchildren and their spouses, Nicole and Josh Morrill of Edwardsville, Ted Davis of Granite City, Jay and Jody Schollmeier of Nebraska, John Schollmeier of Connecticut, Joy Schollmeier of Missouri and Jill Schollmeier of Tennessee; three great grandchildren, Hayes Morrill, Wren Schollmeier, Norah Kate Schollmeier and one on the way; a sister, Carol Ann Davis of Granite City; a brother, William D. Davis of Washington, Missouri; nieces; nephews; other extended family and friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother-in-law, Loren Davis.
