Father McGivney Baseball Team Win Regionals

CARROLLTON – The Father McGivney baseball team won the Carrollton Regional Monday afternoon with a 4-3 win over Calhoun Warriors.

Drew Kleinheider led the way for the Griffins when he went 3-4 with 2 RBIs. Mason Holmes got the win for the Griffins. He gave up four on three runs over five innings. He struck out three.

Calhoun jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the third. In the bottom of the third, the Griffins answered Nick Franklin singled on a line drive to center field to score Kleinheider to make it 2-1.

In the bottom of the fourth Calhoun pitcher Jacob Kress balked which scored Mason Holmes. With two on Kleinheider singles to centerfield which scores Avalos and Kamp making it 4-2.

In the top of the sixth Calhoun scores one on a ground out to make it 4-3.

Evan Koontz pitched the final two innings for the Griffins to get the save. He gave up no runs and had four strikeouts.

Father McGivney now advances to the sectional semi-finals on Wednesday and will play Centralia Christ Our Rock Lutheran at 4:30 at Father McGivney.
