Ronald Shaver

Ronald E. Shaver, 84, of Sun City, Arizona and formerly of Granite City, Illinois passed away at his home on May 21, 2024. He was born October 17, 1939, in Cairo, Illinois, a son of the late Russell G. and F. Roberta (King) Shaver. He married Phyllis E. (Pellegrino) Shaver on October 19, 1975, in St. Jacob, Illinois and she survives. Ronald was the owner and operator of Captain’s Clipper in Granite City with 40 years of service as a barber until his retirement in 2015. He proudly served his country with the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He was a faithful member of the Granite City Elks Lodge where he had served as a past Exalted Ruler. During his tenure as Exalted Ruler, he was named Exalted Ruler for Madison County and also the State of Illinois. He was also a member of the Granite City American Legion and enjoyed his days of playing golf, bowling and fishing. In addition to his beloved wife, he is survived by three children and their spouses, Rhonda Lynn and Robert Tindall of Granite City, Anthony R. and Melinda Shaver of Muvane, Kansas and Rebecca Lynn and Lucas McClain of Phoenix, Arizona; eleven grandchildren, Lauren Robertson, Kristen Robertson, Olivia Tindall, Heather Koeppe, Meghan Becker, Sydney Batman, Brandon Shaver, Mackenzie Shaver, Peyton Shaver, Madeline McClain and Miles McClain; seven great grandchildren, Serenity, Naomi, Matthew, Weston, Elijah, Lila and Eli; a sister, Jacqueline Seago of Granite City; nieces; nephews; other extended family and friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Toni Holmes and Karen Cotter.

In celebration of his life, a memorial visitation will be at Irwin Chapel, 3960 Maryville Road in Granite City on Saturday, June 15, 2024, from 11:00 a.m. until time of a memorial service at 1:00 p.m. Reverend Mark Maynard will officiate and military honors will be accorded. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or the American Lung Association and may be accepted at the funeral chapel. www.irwinchapel.com
