James Eydmann

James “Jim” William Eydmann, age 84, of Granite City, IL, passed away on Wednesday, June 5, 2024, at Stearns Nursing and Rehab Center in Granite City, IL. Jim was born on June 7, 1939, in St. Louis, MO, a son of the late Lloyd Eydmann and Floretta (Sexauer) Tellman.

Jim grew up in Affton, MO and went to primary school there and graduated from Bayless High School. He received his higher education degrees from several colleges. Jim was a United States Air Force veteran who proudly served his country with honor. He retired from McDonnell Douglas as a data processor after many years of dedicated service. After retiring, Jim then went to work for Granite City School District, as a school bus driver, and he enjoyed spending time with the children. He was an active member and board member of the American Youth Hostels in his younger years. Jim was an avid cyclist most of his life, and until recently still road his bike daily in Granite City. He loved to hike, camp and cook in the great outdoors, never anything fancy, always primitive camping. Jim also enjoyed canoeing down the Missouri rivers. Jim was Susan’s best friend, partner and fellow traveler. Together they were blessed to see most of the United States and many countries in Europe and China. Jim will be remembered as a devoted family man who loved his family. He will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.

In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by his brother, David Eydmann.
Jim is survived by his beloved wife, Susan Eydmann of Granite City, IL; loving children, Michele (Michael) Hedrick of Fenton, MO and Amanda Eydmann of Pacific, MO; dear step-children, Jennifer (Brian) Ross of San Diego, CA and Brian (Amber) Ash of Maryville, IL; proud grandfather to Lauren, Brittany, Morgane, Joseph, Braeden, Jackson, Tayler, Nicholas and Ted; proud great-grandfather to Sylvia, RJ, Callen, Rhiannon, Cambree, Knox and Xander; extended family and many friends.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Monday, June 10, 2024, at Irwin Chapel, Granite City, IL.

In celebration of his life, a funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, June 11, 2024, at Irwin Chapel, Granite City, IL, with Pastor Brian Ross officiating. Interment will be in Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery, St. louis, MO, with military honors provided by the United States Air Force.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to American Heart Association. Donations will be accepted at the funeral chapel.
