Cory Chamness Williams, 53, died at 12:12 p.m. Thursday, June 13, 2024 at his home in Granite City. Born February 12, 1971 in Alton, he was the son of Mary E. (Torres) Chamness of Granite City, and the late Roy Chamness. Cory was the owner/operator of Cory’s Tree Service where his dedication showed in his legacy of being an outstanding treeman. On October 20, 2017 he married Veronica Williams in Pontoon Beach, IL. She survives. Cory met the loves of his life in 1997, his wife Veronica and her children. He never saw his children as stepchildren. He stepped in and took on the father role with pride. He loved being a father and the only thing that compared to his love for his children was his love for his grandchildren. Along with his mother and wife he is survived by a daughter, Sabrina Knight (Dustin) of Collinsville, two sons, Brandon Washam of Granite City, and David Washam (Kat) of Granite City, five grandchildren, Kathleen, Bentley and Jayden Knight, and Logan and Axel Washam. He is also survived by three sisters, Annie Valenzuela (Brandon) of Granite City, Doris Chamness of Witt, and Misty Collins (Jamie) of Granite City, several nieces and nephews as well as, Willie Finazo’s his mentor and friend, Joe Mielke his best friend, and Gary Lee Staggs his sidekick and cousin. Along with his father, he was preceded in death by a brother, Roy Chamness. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. until time of funeral service at 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 19, 2024 at Gent Funeral Home in Alton. Memorials may be made to the family.
