Virginia Martin

Virginia Martin, age 96, of Granite City, Il, passed away on Friday, June 21, 2024, at Granite Nursing and Rehab Center, Granite City, IL. Virginia was born on February 12, 1928, in Granite City, IL, a daughter of the late Percy and Virginia (Tayon) Wilkinson.

On December 30, 1948, Virginia Wilkinson married Stanley L. Martin, the love of her life in Arkansas, and Stanley passed away on May 7, 2014. Virginia will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, aunt, and a dear friend. She enjoyed quilting, gambling and taking trips with her family and friends. Virginia will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her.

In addition to her parents and husband, Virginia was preceded in death by her siblings, Laura Ruder, Eugene Wilkinson, Dorothy Bugger, Frank Wilkinson, John Wilkinson, Eleanor James, Percy Wilkinson, Mabel Auxtinee, Grace Foley, Linda Hall, Oscar Wilkinson and Margaret Frazier; son-in-law, Marion Courtney; and by a grandson, Scott Courtney.

Virginia is survived by her loving children, Philip Martin of St. Peters, MO, Virginia (Thomas) Courtney-Nagy of Granite City, IL, Kevin (Joan) Martin of Idaho, Joanne (John) Stone of Granite City, IL and Kerry (Lorna) Martin of Wellsburg, IA; proud grandmother to 12 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and 6 great-great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

In celebration of her life, a visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, June 29, 2024, at Irwin Chapel, Granite City, IL. The funeral service will follow at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday.

Memorial donations may be given to Alzheimer’s Association. Donations will be accepted at the funeral chapel.
