Sarah Metcalf

Sarah Dean (Watts) Metcalf, age 93 of Poinciana, FL, formerly of Granite City, IL, passed away on Tuesday July 9, 2024, at Merrill Gardens. Sarah was born on January 07, 1931, in Granite City, IL, a daughter of the late Haskell Bryan Watts and Lessie Mary (Goodin) Watts. Sarah graduated from Granite City High School in January 1949. After high school Sarah worked at Mercantile Mortgage Co. On April 18, 1958, Sarah married the love of her life, William Lewis Metcalf, Jr. Sarah was a faithful member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Granite City, IL. She was active in Frohardt PTA, GCHS South Band Parents, Job’s Daughters, and Minerva Club. Sarah volunteered over 9000 hours with the St. Elizabeth’s/Gateway Auxiliary. She will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her. She is survived by her loving children, William Douglas (Dana) Metcalf of Springfield, IL and Mary Louise (Greg) Hennenfent of Kissimmee, FL; dear nieces, Kathy Jo (John) Faulkner, Blenda Bogovich; dear nephews, Bobby (Connie) Ryan, David Ryan, and Kenneth Watts. Proud grandmother to Samantha (Tim) Friese of Hatfield, PA; Silas Qualls, Roman Metcalf, and Leland Metcalf of Springfield, IL. Proud great-grandmother of Julia Friese of Hatfield, PA, and extended family and many friends.
Visitation will be held from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM on Tuesday, July 23, 2024, at Irwin Chapel, 3960 Maryville Road, Granite City, IL. In celebration of her life, funeral services will follow at 11:00 AM at the funeral chapel, with Pastor John Walter officiating. Internment will be at Sunset Hills Memorial Estates, Glen Carbon, IL. Memorial donations may be given to Trinity United Methodist Church. www.irwinchapel.com
