Robert R. Grayson Jr., age 77, of Granite City, IL, passed away on Wednesday, August 7, 2024, at Alton Memorial Hospital in Alton, IL. Robert was born on March 12, 1947, in Joplin, Mo., a son of the late Robert R. Grayson Sr., and Betty Jean (Young) Grayson.
Robert was a Vietnam Veteran who proudly served his country in the United States Navy. On August 2, 1969, Robert married Elaine Gunderson in Granite City, IL, and Elaine passed away on February 15, 2010. Robert retired from Ameren as a sub-station electrician after many years of dedicated service. He was an active member of Collinsville V.F.W. Post 5691, and past Commander of the post. Robert was an outdoorsman who enjoyed nature. His greatest joy was spending time with his family, whom he loved dearly. Robert will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and a dear friend. He will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.
In addition to his parents and wife, Robert was preceded in death by his sister, Sandra Lane.
He is survived by his loving children, Daniel (Stacy) Grayson of Granite City, IL and Becky (Brian) Wilgus of Glen Carbon, IL; proud grandfather to Jacob Grayson, Nicholas Grayson, Ian Wilgus and Nathan Wilgus; brother-in-law, Gordon Lane of Granite City, IL; niece, Sharon Hendrickson of Granite City, IL; nephew, Michael Lane of Glen Carbon, IL; dear friend, April Gibb of Granite City, IL; extended family and friends.
Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. on Monday, August 12, 2024, at Irwin Chapel, Granite City, IL.
In celebration of his life, a graveside service will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Monday, August 12, 2024, at Sunset Hill Memorial Estates, Glen Carbon, IL. Military honors will be conducted by the Collinsville V.F.W. Post 5691 at the cemetery.
Memorial donations may be given to American Cancer Society or D.A.V. (Disabled American Veterans). Donations will be accepted at the funeral chapel.
