William “Bill” Kent, 99, of Granite City, IL, passed away at home at 5:37 a.m. Wed. Aug. 14, 2024.
He was born Jan. 22, 1925 in Walnut Ridge, AR to the late Edith Nora (Harris) Smith and John William Kent.
Bill married Helen Kathleen Green Oct. 25, 1946 in St. Louis, MO. She preceded him in death Mar. 26, 2004.
Bill was a WWII U.S. Army Air Corps veteran, serving from 1943 to 1945. He was a member of VFW #1300, AmVets #51 and loved to fish and play cards. Over his life he worked several different jobs, including: 37 years for Krey Packing, 10 years as a HOD Carrier and foreman with Local #179 and also a well driller.
He is survived by a grandson: Daniel (Rene) Miller of Granite City; 3 special great-grandchildren: Timber Niemeyer, Hannah Thompson and Josh Miller.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son: Dennis William Kent; a grandson: Dennis Wayne Kent; a brother; and a sister.
A celebration of Bill’s life will be held at a later date with burial at Valley View Cemetery.
