Willie Gallas

Willie Gallas, age 98, of Granite City, IL, passed away on Saturday, August 17, 2024, at her son’s home in Spring Hill, TN. Willie was born on March 7, 1926, in Grandin, MO, a daughter of the late John and Alice Walton.

On June 18, 1949, Willie Walton married George Gallas the love of her life in St. Louis, MO, and George passed away on June 26, 2014. Willie attended several churches in Granite City, and she loved going to church to serve the Lord. She also enjoyed sewing, crocheting and cooking amazing meals for her family. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family, whom she loved dearly. Willie possessed many skills and talents, and held various administrative jobs in the St. Louis metropolitan area over her life. She also operated her own hair salon at one point, and has fond memories of working in the Granite City Clerk of the Court’s Office. She was active in fundraisers at the Niedringhaus Elementary School PTA. She will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her.

In addition to her parents and husband, Willie was preceded in death by her siblings, Earl, Clarence, Edith, Pansy, Elizabeth, Agnes, Marvin, Ruby and Lettie, and by a granddaughter, Julia Mills.

She is survived by her loving children, Ronald (Paulette) Gallas of Pocahontas, IL, Brian (Casey) Gallas of Spring Hill, TN and Michelle (Dustin Hamilton) Mills of Phoenix, AZ; seven grandchildren, Jessica Dallas, Tamara Bunker, Alyssa Gallas, Trevor Mills, Wyatt Gallas, Lila Gallas, and Vada Gallas; four great-grandchildren, Hannah, Hayley, Olivia, and J.J.; one great-great-grandchild, Mack; many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

In celebration of her life, a visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, August 24, 2024, at Irwin Chapel, Granite City, IL. The funeral service will follow at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday. Willie will be laid to rest next to George at Sunset Hill Memorial Estates in Glen Carbon, IL.

Memorial donations may be given to Alzheimer’s Association. Donations will be accepted at the funeral chapel.
