Phyllis Ann (Midkiff) Scott, lovingly known as Fifi, 86, of Caseyville, Illinois, peacefully passed away in Bluffton, South Carolina, on August 25, 2024. Born in East Saint Louis in 1938 to Alfred and Aimee (Burden) Midkiff, Phyllis graduated from high school and went on to work for the Railroad Retirement Board. After her retirement,in her free time, she found joy in volunteering. Phyllis was actively involved with St. Louis Cardinals Care, which supports St. Louis Children’s Hospital, and she took pleasure in visiting the St. Louis Zoo, where she adopted various animals, including zebras, babirusas, giraffes, and cheetahs. She regularly volunteered at the Caseyville Picnic and Caseyville parades with the Fire Department and remained dedicated to the Mouse House in Caseyville. Phyllis was also a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR).
She loved attending local fish fries and steak dinners, collecting Beanie Babies, and attending all of the St. Louis Cardinals’ baseball games. Phyllis was a member of Caseyville United Methodist Church.
Phyllis married Martin Porter Scott of Caseyville, Illinois, in 1974. She was preceded in death by her father, Alfred Midkiff; her mother, Aimee (Burden) Midkiff; her husband, Martin Porter Scott; and her sons, Jimmy Gass and Michael Gass. She is survived by her son, Mark Gass; her stepson Kenneth Scott; her brother, David (Kathy) Midkiff; and her sister, Patricia (Melvin) Scharf; and many nieces, nephews, grandchildren and godchildren.
The funeral and visitation services for Martin and Phyllis Scott will be held on October 16, 2024, at Valhalla-Gaerdner-Holten Funeral Home, located at 3412 Scott Frank Pkwy W, Belleville, IL. Visitation will be from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m., followed by the funeral service from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. The graveside service and burial will take place at 3:00 p.m. at Valhalla Gardens.
