Todd M. Steffens, 57, of Belleville IL was born in East St Louis IL on December 9th, 1966. He passed away at home surrounded by family & friends. He had been battling cancer for over two years.
He was preceded in death by his:
- Parents, Gregor (Bud) and Golda Mae (Jean) Steffens
- Brother-in-law, George R Ripplinger Jr.
Surviving are his:
- Sister, Terry Ripplinger
- Brother, Martin (Kathie) Steffens
- Nephew, Dan (Becky) Vunetich
- Nieces:
- Jana (Paul) Amann
- Renee (Lee) Flanigan
- Michelle Chadwick
- Great nieces & nephews
- Many other relatives and friends
Todd was a graduate of Belleville East Township High School, where he made many lifelong friends.
Todd was a true sports afficionado. Being very knowledgeable of all sports, he could quote statistics and explain the game to anyone for hours. He loved all sports especially, St Louis Blues Hockey and Fairmount Park Racetrack. The track was his happy place. He had a brotherhood of friends at the track. They would socialize, handicap, share their stories and place their bets. He loved betting and winning. Todd spent many hours basking in the sun by the pool.
Todd had a special way of making you feel like you were the most important person in the room. He had a way of making people feel welcome and loved with his special greetings.
He always asked about you, your family, and he was truly interested. He really wanted to know. He would tell you how proud he was of you or your family. He had a way of making us feel good about ourselves. He was a true friend. He would do anything he could to help you but rarely asked for anything. He did not want to be a burden. He wanted to show you a good time. He was kindhearted, easy going and fun to be with guy that had a great laugh and smile.
He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Human Society or Belleville Family Hospice.
There will be a Celebration of Life at a later date.
