Alice E. Coon, 96, of formerly of Belleville, Illinois, passed away in Freeburg, Illinois, on Saturday, September 14th, 2024. She was born in Belleville, Illinois on August 1st, 1928.
Alice is preceded in death by her parents, Adolph and Elenora (Deppe) Zellmer; stepmother, Nora Daily; husband, Harry “Mike” Coon, daughter, Ruth Rensing, grandsons, Kevin Rohr and Scott Coon; brothers, Russell (Margaret) Zellmer, Wilbert (Marcela) Zellmer, Edwin (Helen) Zellmer, Emil (Adele) Zellmer, Elmer (Rosemary) Zellmer, and Howard (Harlene) Zellmer; sister, Ruth (Sonny) Craft; stepbrothers, Bill (Marilyn) Daily, and Bo (Jackie) Daily.
She is survived by sons, Michael (Margie) Coon of Belleville, Illinois, and Tim (Debi) Coon of Smithton, Illinois; one daughter, Amy (Russ Wright) Tucker of St. Charles, Missouri. She is further survived by grandchildren, Jon (Terri) Foster, Dean Foster, Kelli (Jeff Wilson) Kane, Clayton Tucker, Amber (Chris) Beadle, Mikayla Wright and Megan Wright; great-grandchildren, Eva Coon, Aaron Kane, Brooke Wilson, Jefferie Martin Wilson, Ashlee (Craig) Whitaker, Mason Beadle, Allen (Mandy) Foster, Mark (Bethany) Foster, Sean Foster, Scotty Coon, Aden Coon; and numerous great-great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
Alice was a devoted mother and a loving wife to her husband, Mike, who she married June 4th, 1949. Family always came first.
She enjoyed the outdoors and looked forward to going fishing, a hobby she passed on to her children and grandchildren. Alice was also a hard-core Chicago Cubs fan and endured years of good-natured harassment from Cardinal fans. She spent many hours doing crossword and jigsaw puzzles and loved a good game of cards.
Alice worked in the ladies clothing department at a local Sav-Mart. She spent years taking care of children at Jack and Jill Nursery. She was a fun-loving person and enjoyed the company of family friends.
She will be truly missed.
The family would like to thank the entire staff at Freeburg Care Center for their compassion and care given to Alice during her stay.
Per her wishes Cremation will be accorded and all services are private.
