Michael Dennis “Denny” Mitchell, age 74, of Granite City, IL, passed away on Wednesday, September 18, 2024, at his home. Denny was born on January 21, 1950, in Granite City, IL, a son of the late Odis Mitchell Jr., and Ilene (McIntosh) Dortch.
On June 7, 1969, Denny married Doris Pritchett, the love of his life at St. John United Church of Christ in Granite City, IL. Denny was a United States Army Reserves veteran who proudly served his country. He retired from Granite City Steel / U.S. Steel in 2012, as a railroad yard manager after forty-two years of dedicated service. In his spare time, Denny enjoyed working in his yard and traveling. His greatest joy was spending time with his family and spoiling his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Denny is survived by his devoted wife of fifty-five years, Doris Mitchell of Granite City, IL; loving children, Jennifer (Eldon) Depew of Shell Knob, MO and Gabe (Mark Santos) Mitchell of Swansea, IL; dear sister, Patricia (Gary) Morris of Granite City, IL; proud grandfather to Allison (Gage) Gustavus and Hunter (Alexis Smith) Depew; proud great-grandfather to Charlotte Gustavus, Cameron Gustavus and Hudson Depew; extended family and many wonderful friends.
In celebration of his life, a private family memorial gathering will be held at a future date.
