Peggy C. Sova-Bellmon, 76, of O’Fallon, IL, passed away on Friday, September 27, 2024, in the comfort of her home with her daughter and son at her bedside.
Peggy was born in Dorena, MO to Blaine and Ruth Ray (nee DeBaun) on November 18, 1947. She and her family moved to O’Fallon, IL when she was 10 years old.
Peggy passed away peacefully after a courageous battle with cancer, leaving behind a legacy of love and service. A retired registered nurse and flood adjuster, Peggy dedicated her life to caring for others, both in her profession and in her personal life.
From 1978-1984, Peggy worked as a registered nurse at Memorial Hospital in Belleville until a foot injury forced her to retire from the field. Her passion for nursing continued to shine throughout her life. Peggy met Michael “Mike” Bellmon in 1984. They created their own insurance adjusting company, Bellmon Adjusters Inc., and together they did work for FEMA adjusting flood claims brought on by hurricanes. During their work, they traveled almost the entire United States.
Peggy and Mike married in 1987 at the Little Church of the West Wedding Chapel in Las Vegas, NV. In her later years, Peggy enjoyed spending time with her family. Her grandchildren brought immense joy to her life. If she was not at home cooking dinner for her family, she could be found cheering on her grandchildren at their hockey games and other extracurricular activities. Peggy was lovingly known as “Grandma” by so many.
Peggy was preceded in death by her parents, Blaine and Ruth Ray, nee DeBaun; her husband, Michael A. Bellmon; brothers, Linden, Joe, and Glenn Ray; sister and brother-in-law, Diana and Sam Maedge; parents-in-laws, Frank and Augusta “Gussie” Sova; parents-in-laws, Hugh and DonAne Bellmon; and sister-in-law, Kathy Robinson.
Left to cherish Peggy’s memory are her children, Geri Lynne Sova and James “Jim” (Mandy) Sova; stepchildren, Dawn Bellmon and Bart (Alena) Bellmon; grandchildren, Austin, Kristin, Nikalus, and Naytin; step-grandchildren, J.C., Mason, and Reece; two step-great-grandchildren; her best friend and former husband, Howard Sova; brother, Danny (Shirley) Ray; aunts, Shirley and Patsy Ray; uncle, Charlie Ray; her Bellmon in-laws, Mary Ann (Gary) Pugh, Marilyn (Tommy) Thomas, Donna (Jay) Thomas, Kyle (Donna) Bellmon, Jimmy (Debbie) Bellmon, Debby (Bill) Fuller, Vicky Goforth, Janet (Terry) Clyden, Fred Robinson, and Denise Barrett; her nearest and dearest friends, Mary Maxim, Donna Flanigan, Dilly Virgin, Paula Massey, Paula Hubler, Tim Jones, Doug Jones, Lori Jones, Stan Jones, Greg Jones, Jackie and Whitley Kelly; in addition to numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
