Marion Griesedieck

Marion M. Griesedieck, nee Menges, 98, of Belleville, IL, born December 29, 1925, in East St. Louis, IL, died Thursday, October 10, 2024, at St. Francis Assisted Living at the Shrine of Our Lady of the Snows, Belleville, IL.

Marion graduated from Maryville College and then worked for the phone company. Later, she was employed by Blackburn Motors, East St. Louis, and was the very first female assistant service manager. She also sold real estate while raising her family.

Mrs. Griesedieck was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church and was active in the Women’s Sodality at church. She volunteered for Meals on Wheels. She loved to play tennis and water ski. Marion knew how to have fun. She started a bible study with her friends. She was in charge of running the Happy Hours at the Shrine, and she enjoyed drinking Stag beer with her husband.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 63 years, Bernard Henry Griesedieck, whom she married on November 26, 1949, and who died on July 31, 2013; a daughter, Lucy Nile; her parents, Eugene and Elsie, nee Bratton, Menges; two sons-in-law, Jim Susi and Ronnie Crank; her brother, Eugene Jr. (Carolee) Menges; and her sister, Patricia (John) Luscomb.

Surviving are two daughters, Mary Crank (David Jacquot) and Gene Susi (Thomas) McClain; a son-in-law, David Nile; five grandchildren, Amy (Robert) Crow, Christopher Crank, Matthew (Molly) Susi, Mary (Chris) Mileham, and Timothy Nile; two great-grandchildren, Benjamin and Brody Crow; and nieces and nephews.

Visitation: Friends may visit from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday, October 13, 2024, at George Renner & Sons Funeral Home, Belleville, IL.

Funeral: A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 9 a.m. Monday, October 14, 2024, at the Chapel of the Benedictine Living Community at the Shrine, Belleville, IL, with Msgr. Carl Scherrer officiating.

Burial will be at Green Mount Catholic Cemetery, Belleville, IL.
