Arlene Stegman

Arlene Blanche Stegman, nee Nollau, 92, of Belleville, IL, born April 2, 1932, in Belleville, IL, died Saturday, October 12, 2024, at Mercy Rehab and Care Center, Swansea, IL, with her family at her bedside. 

Arlene was a lifelong Belleville resident; graduating from Belleville Township High School in 1950. She worked at the family business of Nollau Garden Center where she had many roles ranging from salesclerk to bookkeeper. She reluctantly retired at the age of 75. Arlene was a lifelong member of the Zion Lutheran Church in Belleville. As a member she was active in Mother’s club, LWML, Couple’s Club, and girl scout leader to name a few. She also taught Sunday School for many years. It was at Zion where she married her husband Karl Mueller Stegman on May 12,1951. 

In her retirement she enjoyed her family, friends and her beloved dogs. She was always ready to go to have lunch at Cutter’s with the ladies or go swimming at the pool.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Karl Mueller Stegman; her parents, Walter and Frances, nee Osbourne, Nollau; a brother, Leland Nollau; and a sister, Marilyn (Mel) Classen.

Surviving are her children, Donna (Leon) Hucke of Millstadt, IL, and Joe (Cathy) Stegman of Belleville, IL; four grandchildren, Erin (Dan) Heaton of St. Louis, MO, Adam (Diana Umali) Hucke of St. Louis, MO, Zachary (Kimberly) Stegman of Collinsville, IL, and Jason (Rebekah) Stegman of Springfield, VA; 10 great-grandchildren; many dear nieces, nephews, and cousins; and special friends, Betty Schuchmann (who Arlene met in kindergarten) and Ludy Stark. 

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Zion Lutheran Church or to the donor’s choice. Condolences may be expressed to the family online at www.rennerfh.com.

Visitation: Friends may visit with the family from 9 to 11 a.m. Friday, October 18, 2024, at Zion Lutheran Church, Belleville, IL.

Funeral: Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, October 18, 2024, at Zion Lutheran Church, Belleville, IL.

Burial will be held at Valhalla Gardens of Memory, Belleville, IL.
