While at Wash U, he and three frat brothers won the inter-fraternities’ tennis tournament. He worked for “Hatchet”, the Washington University yearbook, and appeared on stage at Kiel Opera House for the Wash U Bearskin Follies. Unfortunately, he had too much fun, and nobody told him it was important to attend class.

Later Joe did many types of work. He was a licensed real estate broker and a licensed (all lines) insurance broker. He spent most of his life financing real estate. He became a mortgage loan correspondent for National Homes Acceptance Corporation. Later he was a mortgage loan officer for GMAC Mortgage Co., Security Financial (Security Bank of Milwaukee), and Firstco Mortgage (branch of FCB Banks). He was the Executive Director of the St. Clair County Housing Authority, manager of a general insurance agency, and was a member of Operating Engineers Local 520.

Joe was a member of St. Clair Country Club since 1959. He enjoyed golf, tennis, cards and World War 2 trivia; most of all, however, he loved his wife, children, his home, and his dog, Rory.
