Georgia “Jan” Schmieg, 83, of Granite City, Illinois passed away at 6:02 p.m. on Wednesday, October 30, 2024, at Gateway Regional Medical Center in Granite City.
She was born in Missouri on September 8, 1941, a daughter of the late George Paul and Eula Mae (Hatchel) Richard.
She married Richard Lee Schmieg on November 3, 1962, in St. Louis, Missouri and he passed away on January 19, 2007.
Jan retired from Walmart in Granite City after many years of dedicated service as a cashier. She loved playing bingo, cherished her daughters and grandchildren and will be remembered for the love and special times shared with family and friends.
She is survived by two daughters and a son-in-law, Sherri “Susie” Rogers of Granite City and Diane and Kerry Slayton of Granite City; four grandchildren, James Rogers III, Russell Manion Jr., Nicole and Justin Brown and Kerry “KJ” Slayton Jr.; six great grandchildren, Jada Rogers, Alex Rogers, James and Aleeza Manion, Richard Manion, Bailey Slayton and Hunter Brown; a brother, Ronnie Carson of Bernie, Missouri; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Nora and Joe Fuemmeler of Rushville, Missouri and Pam and Robert Gandt of Brownwood, Missouri; many nieces; nephews; other extended family and friends.
In addition to her beloved husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a son-in-law, James Rogers; two sisters, Shirley Alvis and Brenda Owens and six brothers, Doyle Richard, Chester Richard, Glendale “Dale” Richard, Darrell Carson, Robert Carson and Roger Carson
In accordance to Jan’s wishes, cremation rites will be accorded and no service will be held.
