Carl A. “Chicken” Gomez, age 86, of Fairmont City, IL, born on July 26, 1938, in St. Louis, MO, died on Monday, November 4, 2024, at his residence surrounded by love, prayers and his devoted family.
Carl was a former production mechanic with McDonnell Douglas Aircraft in St. Louis, MO for 37 years. He was a lifetime member of IAM Union #837. Carl held many elected positions; precinct committeeman in Fairmont City for 31 years; Fairmont City Board; Canteen Township Highway Commissioner for 16 years; and former St. Clair County Board Member District #1 for 23 years. He was an avid lifelong bowler and a member of Fairmont City 55 Plus Club. Carl was a devout Catholic who always put God first. He and his devoted wife, Fran, enjoyed 64 years of marriage, a feat not regularly seen these days. He relished spending time with his children, their spouses, and his beloved grandchildren. His whole life he carried his love for cars and for fishing.
He was preceded in death by their baby who died prematurely; his parents, Leo and Lola, nee Wiyninger Gomez; his siblings, Bernard Martinez, Ralph Martinez, Frank Gomez, Catherine Rojas, Juanita Herrington, and Irene Lopez
Carl is survived by his wife, Fran Gomez, nee Cisneros; his daughters, Frances “Tina” Gomez of Fairmont City, IL, Debra (Robert) Gomez-Trost of Highland, IL, and Dawn (Josh) Stufft of North Baltimore, OH; his grandchildren, triplets Jacob Trost, Cole Trost and Mackenzie Trost, Madilyn Stufft and Kylie Stufft; a special thank you to our dear friends, Maryann Aleman, Caroline Champion, our comadre Josephine Manley, and many loving nieces and nephews.
Memorials may be made to Holy Rosary Catholic Church or to the American Cancer Society.
Visitation will be held on Friday, November 8, 2024, from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Fairmont City, IL.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, November 8, 2024, at 12:30 p.m. at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Fairmont City, IL, with Fr. Mike Barber and Fr. Jim Buerster officiating. Interment will be in Mt. Carmel Cemetery, Belleville, IL.
