Linda Lou Draper (nee Pate) of Granite City, IL, passed away on Sunday, November 10, 2024 at the age of 84 after a lengthy illness. Her character during this battle was a true testament to her strength.
She was born in East St. Louis, IL, the youngest child of the late Leo Pate and Olline (nee Embry; Jarvis) and survived by her sister, Patricia Durborow.
She met and married John W. Draper Jr. (who preceded her in death) and they made their home for 55 years in Granite City, IL. They were blessed with two children, John W. Draper III and James R. Draper and four grandchildren, James R. Draper Jr. (deceased), Justin (Amy) Draper, John W. Draper IV, Emily Draper and two great-grandchildren, Kayden Draper and Courtney Draper, many nieces and nephews.
Linda would tell you she had a good life. She started working as a licensed beautician for approximately 20 years. She began a federal career in 1975 with the Railroad Retirement Board and retired in 1995 after 20 years of exemplary service. After retirement, she enjoyed spending time with her family and her many friend groups. She played an active role in her family’s lives. A true caregiver. She loved to cook, play golf, play cards, read books and watch sports. She was loved by all whose lives she touched and will be missed dearly.
In celebration of her life, a visitation will be held from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. on Thursday, November 14, 2024, at Irwin Chapel, Granite City, IL. The funeral service will follow at 1 p.m. with Pastor Sharon Autenrieth officiating. Linda will be laid to rest at Sunset Hill Memorial Estates, Glen Carbon, IL.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to Vitas Hospice. Donations will be accepted at the funeral chapel.
