Clara J. “Babchi” Horbelt, 94, of Granite City, Illinois passed away at 11:10 p.m. on Saturday, November 16, 2024, at Anderson Hospital in Maryville.
She was born August 12, 1930, in Fairmont City, Illinois, a daughter of the late John and Antoinette (Banek) Sak.
She married the love of her life, Richard H. Horbelt, on May 21, 1955, in Fairmont City, Illinois and he passed away on March 2, 2016.
Clara was a faithful member of St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Granite City where she sang with the choir. She cherished her family and will be remembered for the love and special times shared with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She is survived by six children and spouses, Gene and Sally Horbelt of Elsah, Elaine Horbelt of St. Charles, Missouri, Rose Bladdick of Granite City, Judy Horbelt of Ballwin, Missouri, Carolyn Herring of Maryville and Marilyn and David Sucoe of Naperville; nine grandchildren and spouses, Jessica Bladdick, Jeffery Bladdick, Cassie and Zach Neubauer, Kayla and Dylan Griffin, Camille Herring, Philip Sucoe, Alexa Sucoe, David and Chelsea Paul and Christopher and Leoy Slone; seven great grandchildren, Morgan, Leighton, Hattie, Jade, Jaxon, Layne and Blair; a brother, Stanley Sak of Madison; many nieces and nephews; other extended family and friends.
In addition to her beloved husband and parents, she was preceded in death by ten siblings.
In celebration of her life, a visitation will be at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church, 2300 Pontoon Road in Granite City on Tuesday, November 26, 2024, from 10 a.m. until time of a Funeral Mass at 11 a.m. with Father Alfred Tumwesigye as celebrant.
Burial will follow at Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Edwardsville.
Memorials may be made to St. Elizabeth Parish or as Masses.
