Helen Dorothy Schulte, nee Stevenson, 93, of Belleville, IL, born September 1, 1931, in Carlyle, IL, in Clinton County, passed away Wednesday, December 11, 2024, at the Villas of Hollybrook, Belleville, IL, surrounded by her loving family.
Helen was a home maker and worked part time at Lerner’s downtown Belleville. She was a lifelong member of St. Peter’s Cathedral Parish, Belleville, IL. She was a member of the Belleville-Swansea Women of the Moose. Helen graduated from Belleville Township High School in class of 1949.
Helen is preceded in death by her loving husband of 64 wonderful years, Joseph M. Schulte, whom she married on September 2, 1950, at St. Theresa Catholic Church, Belleville, IL, and who died on January 7, 2015; a son, Michael J. Schulte; her parents, Edward F. and Elizabeth L. nee Gehrs, Stevenson; a brother, Edward Joseph Stevenson; three sisters, Mary Stevenson Linke, Betty Stevenson Buentgen, and Bernice Stevenson Ash; a son-in-law, David Bruss; two brothers-in-law, Joe Allen Ash and Kent W. Linke; three sisters-in-law, Charlotte Woodson Stevenson, Viola Schuff, and Vera (Edward) Sutter; and a granddaughter, Becky Kinzel Neighbors.
Helen is survived by her four children, Barbara S. Bruss of Hecker, IL, Jane M. (Barry) Kinzel of Smithton, IL, David S. (Nancy) Schulte and Mary E. (David) Mueller, both of Belleville, IL; 20 grandchildren, Susan Lanter (Randy Daming), Melissa (Orrie) Yaugo, Tracie (Douglas) Kloeppel, Jason Kinzel (Julie Becker), Gene Neighbors, Kenneth Schulte (Amanda Gahn), Benjamin (Amy) Schulte, Derek Schulte (Nick Babiarz), Joseph (Sarah) Mueller, Justin (Shelby) Mueller, Christopher Bruss, Debbie (Don) Schauchner, Michael (Amanda) Bruss, Laura (William) Wilson, Joseph Bruss, Nicholas (Brittan) Bruss, Amy (Howard) Rector, Tammy (Mark) Kenniston, Ginny Golden, and Kelly Katricka Edwards; 36 great-grandchildren; a daughter-in-law, Judy Schulte; a brother, Nicholas (Jackie) Stevenson; and many nieces and nephews.
