Ronald David Donaldson, 74, of Granite City, Illinois passed away at 6:56 a.m. on Wednesday, December 25, 2024, at St. Elizabeth Hospital in O’Fallon, Illinois. He was born July 31, 1950, in Granite City, a son of the late John Henry and Vernice Martha (Payne) Donaldson. He married JoAnn (Miller) Donaldson on October 21, 1990, in St. Louis, Missouri and she survives. Ronald retired from Kraft Foods after many years of dedicated service as a machine operator and had previously worked as a truck driver. The United States Army veteran proudly served his country during the Vietnam War with the 1st Cavalry Division and was the recipient of many medals and other awards. He was a member of the American Legion and V.F.W. and enjoyed his days of fishing and camping. He will be remembered for the love and special times shared with his family and friends.
In addition to his beloved wife, he is survived by five daughters and sons-in-law, Angela and Jay Springman of Wood River, Laura Taylor of Granite City, Patricia and Frank Orris of Granite City, Katherine Kerley of Granite City and Heather Luna of Granite City; many grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Carl and Bonnie Donaldson of Florida and Chuck and Linda Donaldson of Missouri; a sister, Patricia Parson of Missouri; nieces and nephews; other extended family and friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sons-in-law, Jim Taylor and Wayne Kerley; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Hollis Donaldson, Marvin and Bonnie Donaldson and Logan and Judy Donaldson and three sisters, Joybell Donaldson, Phyllis Carver and Edna Tormino.
In celebration of his life, visitation will be at Irwin Chapel, 3960 Maryville Road in Granite City on Monday, January 6, 2025, from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. where a funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, January 7, 2025, with Father Steve Thompson officiating. Burial with full military honors will follow at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis.
