Steven A. Schmittling, 62, of Belleville, IL, born April 19, 1962, in Belleville, IL, passed away on Wednesday, December 25, 2024, at his home after a brave seven-month battle with pancreatic cancer.
Steve was an avid USTA and World Team tennis player, whose passion for sports was evident in his unwavering support for the St. Louis Blues and Cardinals. His love for athletics extended beyond mere spectatorship; it was a part of his active lifestyle and a source of joy.
Together with his beloved wife Diana, Steve cherished traveling with their close friends and family, creating memories that would last a lifetime. Their journeys were filled with laughter, love, and camaraderie, reflecting the deep bonds they shared with those around them. Steve was a member of Christ Church in Fairview Heights, Illinois. He will be remembered for his hearty laugh and his fondness for Fox News, traits that brought warmth and familiarity to those who knew him.
Steve was a beloved husband, brother, son, uncle, and stepdad. His absence will be deeply felt by many, and his legacy will be carried forward by the countless lives he touched. He leaves behind a community enriched by his presence, his laughter, and his love. Rest in peace, Steve, for you will forever be missed and remembered.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Nelda, nee Jenkins, Schmittling.
He is survived by his wife, Diana Schmittling; a stepdaughter, Sierra Wood; his father, Wayne Schmittling, Sr; a brother, Wayne Schmittling, Jr; a sister, Elizabeth (Randy) Suchman; nieces and nephews, Jeremy (Lora) Schmittling, Sarah Schmittling, Ashley (Greg) Dabler, Brandon (Kelly) Suchman, Ross (Krissy) Suchman, Alaina Suchman, and Lydia (Cody) Beishir.
