Carol Rose Landmann (nee Augustin), 86, of Highland, IL, died peacefully on December 29, 2024, surrounded by her husband, children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and brother.
Carol was born on November 15, 1938, in Highland, IL to Elmer and Pearl (nee Knebel) Augustin. On December 26, 1959, Carol married the love of her life and best friend, Leo, at St. Paul Catholic Church in Highland, IL. They recently celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary.
Carol was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church in Highland, IL.
Carol graduated from Highland High School in 1956. She worked at First National Bank in Highland until she married Leo and started to raise their family. While her children were in school she worked at St. Paul School and then at Koch Cleaners until she retired in 2000.
Carol possessed numerous creative talents. She was an amazing seamstress her entire life, taking on projects including clothes for her family and friends, formal dresses, draperies, and so much more. There was nothing that she wouldn’t tackle. Carol was also talented at embroidery; and later in life she became an avid quilter, leaving her family with many, many quilts in her memory.
She was an amazing cook and baker, famous for her pies and rolls, always providing so many great treats for family gatherings. She belonged to 4-H as a young girl and later shared all of her talents as a 4-H leader to pass along her many gifts to others. Carol also served as softball coach and den leader when her kids were growing up. She was an enthusiastic bridge player and enjoyed her time with several bridge groups, and was an avid reader.
Carol enjoyed traveling with her husband, visiting every US state except two, and numerous countries across four continents. After retirement, they spent winters in Florida and attended St. Louis Cardinals’ spring training every year as she was a lifelong fan.
Carol battled COPD her whole life resulting from a childhood illness, and worked hard every day, particularly later in life, to maintain her health and courageously fight that battle. All who knew Carol appreciate what a kind and gentle soul she was.
