Carol J. Poos, nee Jakes, 82, of Belleville, IL, born Sunday, June 28, 1942, in Belleville, IL, passed away Thursday, January 2, 2025 at Dammert Geriatric Center in Belleville, IL.
Carol was a graduate of the Academy of Notre Dame, Belleville, IL. She earned her bachelor’s degree from Southern Illinois University Carbondale and then later attained her master’s degree in mathematics from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville. She worked as a math professor at Southwestern Illinois College (SWIC) in Belleville, IL until her retirement in 2019.
In addition to spending time with her family and friends, Carol loved taking care of her yard and cultivating her many plants. She also enjoyed the time she spent volunteering at the Shelter Shop in Belleville.
She was preceded in death by her:
- Parents, Jerry and Emily, nee Kosar, Jakes
- Aunts, uncles, and cousins
Surviving are her:
- Son, Roderic “Rod” Poos of Colorado Springs, CO
- Daughter, Tracy (William) Justice of Sanford, FL
- Step-daughters:
- Sharon (David) Hipskind
- Kathryn (Michael) Butcher
- Granddaughter, Emily (Patrick) Davie
- Many cousins, friends and neighbors who she considered her family as well
Memorials: In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Belleville Area Humane Society or the Shelter Shop, Belleville, IL.
Funeral: Private family services will be held.
