James Guetterman

James H. Guetterman, 95, of Swansea, IL, born November 30, 1929, in Freeburg, IL, died Saturday, January 4, 2025, at Freeburg Care Center, Freeburg, IL.

James was a member of St. Peter’s Cathedral Catholic Church, Belleville, IL. He worked as a bookkeeper for 29 years at Hoeffken Brothers Construction before his retirement. Jim also worked at FMS Building Center for 12 years.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 66 years, Rose Marie Guetterman, nee Helfrich, whom he married on June 11, 1953, and who died on February 7, 2020; his parents, Fred and Catherine, nee Holtgrave, Guetterman; and his ten siblings, Betty Voellinger, Anita Graham, Herb Guetterman, Dan Guetterman, Marie (Clarence) Kern, Fred (Arlene) Guetterman, Sister Marceline Guetterman, Charlie (Ethel) Guetterman, Paul (Cecelia) Guetterman, and Ruth Kelso.

Surviving are his three daughters, Joan (Michael) Kauling, Barbara Jansen, and Julie Guetterman; two grandchildren, Lea Kauling (Jeffrey Dwyer) and Allison Kauling; a two great-granddaughters, Lillian Rose Dwyer and Josephine Louise Dwyer; and many dear nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or St. Peter’s Cathedral Catholic Church. Condolences may be expressed to the family online at www.rennerfh.com.

Visitation: Friends may visit from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday, January 11, 2025, at St. Peter’s Cathedral Catholic Church, Belleville, IL.

Funeral: A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, January 11, 2025, at St. Peter’s Cathedral Catholic Church, Belleville, IL, with Fr. Godfrey Mullen officiating.

Burial with military honors will be held at Green Mount Catholic Cemetery, Belleville, IL.
