Eugene Albert “Bud” Vonderheide, 88, of Freeburg, IL, born July 22, 1936, on the family farm near Shumway, IL, died Sunday, January 5, 2025, at Cedar Trails Senior Living, Freeburg, IL.
Eugene was an Industrial Arts teacher in Marissa, IL and Freeburg, IL. He was a member St. Joesph Men’s Club, the Freeburg Carpenters Local, and multiple bridge clubs. Eugene also served as a Cub Scouts Cub Master, past president of the Freeburg Swim team, and director of Building Trades in Marissa, IL. He was a wonderful dad, grandpa, father-in-law, and he enjoyed spending time with his friends.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 59 years, Marlene Gertrude Vonderheide, nee Hardiek, whom he married on November 21, 1959, and who died on June 18, 2019; his son, Kent E. Vonderheide; his parents, Anthony and Bessie, nee Keller, Vonderheide; a sister, Joan Clancy; and a brother, Wayne Vonderheide.
Surviving are his three sons, Christopher Vonderheide, M.D., of the Bahamas, Blake (Katerina) Vonderheide, M.D. of Oakland, CA, and Todd (Kim) Vonderheide M.D., of Freeburg, IL; five grandsons, Devin Vonderheide, Brock Vonderheide, Nicholas Vonderheide, Dimitri Vonderheide, and Stefano Vonderheide; a brother, Ray (Lois) Vonderheide; and two sisters, his twin, Elaine Hartke and Barbara Hartke.

Visitation: Friends may visit from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, January 10, 2025, and from 9 to 10 a.m. Saturday, January 11, 2025, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Freeburg, IL.
Funeral: A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, January 11, 2025, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Freeburg, IL, with Fr. Stanley Konieczny officiating.
Burial will be at Green Mount Catholic Cemetery, Belleville, IL.
