James Edward “Jim” Ridings, 80, of Granite City, Illinois passed away at 12 a.m. on Wednesday, January 8, 2025, at Stearns Nursing and Rehab in Granite City.
He was born July 31, 1944, in Granite City, Illinois, a son of the late James Lee and Hazel Virginia (Cochran) Ridings.
Jim had retired in 2012 from Century 21 in Granite City after many years in real estate. He had worked in sales throughout his life and was a co-owner of Family Furniture, owner of Jim-N-I Furniture and had worked several years for Perdue Furniture.
The United States Army veteran proudly served his country during the Vietnam War. He had a love for V.W. bugs and was a member of the Volkswagen Club for many years and enjoyed attending many car shows and cruises.
He enjoyed his early days riding horses and being a part of the Trail Rider’s Club. He enjoyed polka music, dancing, a fan of Dolly Parton and cherished his dogs, Lovee and Sugar. He was very outgoing, enjoying good times with family and friends and will always be remembered.
He is survived a son and daughter-in-law, Steve and Jenny Ridings of Alton; his former wife, Nancy Ridings of Granite City; granddaughter, Baylee Ridings of Granite City; sister and brother-in-law, Debra and Andy Economy of Madison; nieces; nephews; other extended family and friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister Patricia Campbell Ray and his special friend of 23 years, Bonnie Campbell.
In celebration of his life, visitation will be at Irwin Chapel, 3960 Maryville Road in Granite City on Saturday, January 18, 2025, from 11 a.m. until time of a memorial service at 1 p.m. with Reverend Jarad Corzine officiating.
Burial with full military honors will follow at St. John’s Cemetery on Nameoki Road in Granite City. Memorials may be made to the Granite City APA and may be accepted at the funeral chapel. www.irwinchapel.com
