Lillian Jones

Lillian E. Jones, nee Rutter, 96, of Belleville, IL, departed this life peacefully to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday, January 13, 2025, at her home surrounded by many loved ones. Lillian was born in Belleville on February 4, 1928.

She graduated from Belleville Township High School in 1946. Lil was employed as Service Representative at Southwestern Bell Telephone Co., Belleville. She and Paul Jones were married on April 23, 1949. She later worked as a bookkeeper for Christ United Church of Christ, retiring after serving 18 years.

Lil was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, a Past Honored Queen of Jobs Daughters, Bethel #24. She was a long-time member of Christ UCC and enjoyed teaching Sunday School to little ones. She was a den mother and organizer of the Blue and Gold banquet. Lil was thrilled to be the first President of the Abraham Lincoln PTA.

Lil and her late husband, Paul enjoyed being active members of the Belleville Health and Sports Center. (She was able to participate into her 90’s). After retiring, they both were also able to travel to many beautiful and interesting places, seeing old friends and family along the way. Lil’s passion, though, was her family.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 62 years, Paul H. Jones, whom she married on April 23, 1949, and who died July 21, 2011; her parents, Theodore F. and Lillie H., nee Linck, Rutter; a brother, Harold (Ardella) Rutter; her sister, Virginia Mary Lousie Rutter; and her brother-in-law, Robert Gentsch.

Surviving are her son, Paul Dale (Susan) Jones; two daughters, Debra L. (Ronald) Johnson, and Sharon L. (Jon) Adamson; six grandchildren, Katelyn (Mike) Walters, Greg (Heather) Johnson, Paul M. Jones (Kristen Carbone), Sarah (Zack) Thies, Anthony (Jennifer) Adamson, and Chelsea (Nate) Jackson; five great-grandchildren, Leo and Oliver Walters, Coralynn Adamson, Abel Thies, and Eleanor Jackson; a brother, Warren (Judy) Rutter; and a sister-in-law, Lois Helen Gentsch.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Family Hospice or the charity of donor’s choice. Condolences may be expressed to the family online at www.rennerfh.com.

Visitation: Friends may visit from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday, January 19, 2025, at George Renner & Sons Funeral Home, Belleville, IL, and from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday, January 20, 2025, at Christ United Church of Christ, Belleville, IL.

Funeral: Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, January 20, 2025, at Christ United Church of Christ, Belleville, IL, with Rev. Jonathan Tinge officiating.

Entombment will be at Valhalla Mausoleum, Belleville, IL.
