Mary Ellen Margaret Michael, 98, of Swansea, IL, born January 27, 1926, in East St. Louis, IL, died Monday, January 20, 2025, at Mercy Rehab and Care Center, Swansea, IL.
Mary Ellen was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was a member of St. Augustine Catholic Church, Belleville, IL. She volunteered with a food bus distributing meals to the needy. Mary Ellen had a passion for ceramics, genealogy, and collecting Christmas houses. She also loved square dancing with Erwin.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Erwin Henry Michael, whom she married on September 14, 1946, and who died on October 25, 2006; her son, Gary Michael; a grandson, Jeffrey Michael; her parents, Alphonse and Mary, nee Zimmerman, Eversman; and two brothers, Alphonse Eversman and Orville Eversman.
She is survived by her daughter, Brenda Weik; three sons, Brian (Kathy) Michael, Craig (Kathleen) Michael, and Darrell (Linda) Michael; a daughter-in-law, Mary Michael; six grandchildren, Michelle Schranz, Alex (Mary) Michael, Brian (Cindy) Michael, Danny (Doella) Michael, Kristan (Chris) Sonnenberg, and Joseph (Chelsea) Michael; ten great-grandchildren, Ben Schranz, Nick Schranz, Sam Schranz, Blaire Michael, Quinn Michael, Avery Sonnenberg, Mason Sonnenberg, Tessa Sonnenberg, Henry Michael, and Vivienne Michael; and nieces and nephews.

Funeral: A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, January 23, 2025, at St. Augustine of Canterbury Catholic Church, Belleville, IL, with Msgr. William McGhee officiating.
Burial will be at Holy Cross Cemetery, Fairview Heights, IL.
