George C. Grove, 88, of Granite City, Illinois, passed away at 11:07 a.m. on Tuesday, January 21, 2025, at Addington Place in Edwardsville.
He was born October 21, 1936, in Granite City, a son of the late James “Bus” and Rheba (Smith) Grove.
George married the love of his life, Carol Jean (Harmsen) Grove on April 25, 1959, at the former St. Peter United Church of Christ in Granite City and she passed away on February 23, 2017.
George owned and operated Grove Plumbing in Granite City for 25 years and retired in 1992. He was a longtime member and served on the church council for many years at St. Peter United Church of Christ. He was also a former member of the Granite City Rotary Club and a member of the Plumbers Local #360.
He loved his days of fishing, cherished his dogs and enjoyed gardening and ceramics. He will be remembered for the love and special times shared with his family and friends.
George is survived by two sons and a daughter-in-law, George Grove Jr. of Worden and Tim and Jane Grove of Waterloo; a grandson, Daniel James Grove; a step-grandson, Austin Coates; extended family friend, Megan and her boys, Kayden and Malakai; nieces; nephews; other family and many friends.
In addition to his beloved wife and parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Marge Reutebuch, Dixie Stephens and Willa “Pud” Mueller and a brother, Tom Grove.
In celebration of his life, visitation will be at Irwin Chapel, 3960 Maryville Road in Granite City on Sunday, January 26, 2025, from 4 until 8 p.m. where funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, January 27, 2025.
Burial will follow at Sunset Hill Memorial Estates in Glen Carbon.
