William John Mayer, 84, of Swansea, IL, born on January 26, 1940, in Belleville, IL, passed away at home peacefully with family members.
Bill was a proud graduate and supporter of the University of Illinois. In his later years made an endowment for electrical engineers. Bill was an avid sports fan, especially of college basketball. He enjoyed domestic and international travel with Linda. Bill was a prolific reader of newspapers and books, a skilled Scrabble player, and took pleasure in nature, and watching his grandchildren’s various activities.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents, William Joseph and Angela Margaret, nee Meier, Mayer.
Surviving are his loving wife of 25 years, Linda Mayer, nee Weihl; two stepdaughters, Susan (Eric) Zareh and Karen (Scott) Thoma;
five grandchildren, Elizabeth and William Zareh, and Samuel, Lillian, and Benjamin Thoma; and his brother-in-law, Donald E. (Carol) Weihl.
