Lambert George Greten, age 90, of Fairview Heights, IL, born on October 14, 1934, in Lively Grove, IL, died on Tuesday, January 28, 2025, in Belleville, IL.
Lambert served two years in the United States Army, winning shooting awards. He worked as a retail clerk in clothing stores, then as a letter carrier for the United States Postal Service, retiring in August of 1992.
He loved gardening, including many years with large backyard gardens, selling vegetables and giving/selling them to Merideth Nursing Home downtown Belleville. He won numerous ribbons at the county fairs with his lovely vegetables. Lambert was an active member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Fairview Heights, IL.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Carolyn Greten, nee Kugler; his parents, Anton and Theresa, nee Buss Greten; his granddaughter, Sonja Tarvin; his step-great grandson, Bentley Tarvin; his sisters, Marie Behrman, Josephine Schmiersahl, and Rita Pour; his brothers, Joseph, Anthony, Leo, Urban and Gilbert; and his son-in-law, David Tarvin.
Lambert is survived by his daughters, Pamela (Jonathan) Allan of Rochester, MN and Brenda Tarvin of Fairview Heights, IL; his step-grandchildren, Michael (Melinda), Ben (Jena), and Kathy (Eric); step-great grandchildren, Brianna, Gabriel, Raylee, Octavia, and Aniya; his brother, Jerome (Pat) Greten of Marissa, IL; and his sister-in-law, Mary Ann Greten of St. Libory, IL. Lambert is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, February 4, 2025, from 4 to 8 p.m. at Kassly Mortuary, Ltd., Fairview Heights, IL.
A funeral procession will leave Kassly Mortuary, Ltd. at 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday, February 5, 2025, for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Fairview Heights. Interment will be in Lake View Memorial Gardens, Fairview Heights, IL.
